A.) Teaching Methods
No teaching method can be considered as the best. Each classroom has diverse learners and different learning context. With these, a variety of teaching methods is essential.
All throughout my observations, I have noticed that the direct or lecture method is greatly utilized by the teacher. This is necessary because there are lots of complex concepts in Biology that are needed to be understood clearly by the students. On the other hand, during laboratory sessions, cooperative learning is being implemented. This is to enhance the working skills of the students and also because the quantity of materials or equipment cannot suffice for individual exploration/learning.
B.) Learning materials and innovation
During lecture sessions in the classroom, the teacher always prepares a PowerPoint presentation as a learning aid. Textbooks and workbooks are also used as another reliable reference of the students. For the laboratory sessions, various laboratory materials and equipment are made available. With these, the individual differences of the learners in terms of learning styles and preferences are being addressed and effective learning takes place.
C.) Sources of learning and technology
The sources of learning and technology are one of the top priorities of the school. In order to realize this, textbooks and workbooks are provided as references for both the teacher and the students. Aside from these, a strong internet connection is also available which paves way to an easy access of information for everybody.
D.) Authentic Assessment
Biology has lots of theories and concepts which do not need to be only memorized but to be clearly understood. As a result, there are allotted days for laboratory classes. The students are given with tasks and activities in which they can apply or put into practice whatever massive body of information is being taught to them during lecture sessions. Therefore, performance assessment is the form of authentic assessment used.
