A.) Planning for teaching
One of the key processes in effective instruction is planning. It provides a teacher with a sense of direction. Based on my observation, my cooperating teacher always see to it that she knows what are the things that are needed to be done and what are the factors that are needed to be considered for the next teaching-learning process.
B.) Preparing lessons and materials
With her long-time experience of teaching Biology, it seems like preparing lessons is easier for my cooperating teacher because she has been through the Science concepts and knowledge for how many years. With regard to the materials during lecture sessions,, my cooperating teacher makes use of technology. She utilizes Power Point presentation and LCD projector. When she has additional information, she uses the whiteboards. Moreover, during laboratory classes, she always ensures that all the essential materials are available.
C.) Teaching in class
Effective learning does not only rely upon the proficiency of a teacher, but also upon his/her ability to create a conducive learning environment.
Every time that I have observed my cooperating teacher, I have noticed that she always exudes mastery on her teaching subject, which is Biology. She delivers the lesson with comprehensiveness and accuracy. She also portrays confidence, showing that she is certain upon every information that she provides to the students. However, aside from her adeptness, she also ensures that a positive socio-emotional environment is being established in the classroom. She displays enthusiasm and a good sense of humor during discussions. She also encourages her students to confidently voice out their ideas and opinions.
D.) Measurement and evaluation
At the end of a lesson, my cooperating teacher conducts activities which would assess the learning of the students. There are times in which she implements a traditional quiz. There are times in which she instructs the students to answer exercises on their workbook. There are also times in which she conducts an oral recitation for a more effective individual assessment.
E.) Overall impression to the teacher performances
My cooperating teacher's performance is highly commendable. She manifests mastery and proficiency on her subject and she knows how to create a favorable learning environment in order for effective educational process to take place.
